April 8, 2022

Did you know that “holiday” is simply short for “holy day”? Throughout the course of a year, there are certain days we set apart as special: to commemorate extraordinary events. While there are many holy days, there is but one Holy Week. Palm Sunday begins the final week of Lent and marks the beginning of the most pivotal week in human history. This single week consumes nearly a third of the ink in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The Holy Spirit considered the events of this week that important.

On a holy day, the relentless march of time slows down. We set aside our usual routines to call attention to whatever or whoever makes that day special. It is good for Christians to slow down this entire week to ponder all that Christ did for them, from his humble entrance into Jerusalem… to his sacrificial death on the cross… to the victory of Easter morning.

Set aside your usual routines this coming week to observe the Holy Week:

  • Palm Sunday Service – 10:00 AM
  • Canvassing, Meet @ Longleaf Office – 5:30 PM
  • Good Friday Service – 1:30 PM
  • Easter Sunday Breakfast – 9:15 AM
  • Easter Sunday Service – 10:15 AM

We gather at Phi Delta Kappa Hall, next to Vallarta’s Mexican Restaurant along State Road 54, at 10 AM this Palm Sunday.

Breakfast will be served at 9:15 AM. If you would like to help by providing a breakfast dish, fruit or pastries, please email or text Cindy Cochran (727-236-7022 or lccochran06@gmail.com) or sign up at church this Sunday. SET ASIDE THE USUAL ROUTINE – Good Friday, April 15 | 1:30 PM
Good Friday is not a funeral for Jesus. At a funeral we prefer to forget a person’s death. We mourn, we focus on the blessings of someone’s earthly life, and in the case of a believer, we focus on their eternal life. Jesus’s death is different. We remember his death. We look carefully at the details. We call the day “good.” We know something incredible is happening. Jesus was pierced and crushed for our transgressions…willingly! We are right with God. We have peace! Set aside your usual routines this Good Friday to observe a truly “Good” Friday. Service is at 1:30 PM at Phi Delta Kappa Hall.
