40 days after Easter is another big festival in the church which is often overlooked – The Ascension of our Lord. Jesus’ ascension marked the fact that his work was complete. Never again will a sacrifice for sin need to be made. However, Jesus’ ascension also marks that his work is just beginning. Through the Church Jesus now proclaims forgiveness throughout the world. The Church consists of people like us who are often weak and timid witnesses for Christ. So Jesus promised to send us his Spirit to give us power from heaven, that we might take the gospel to the ends of the earth. Join us for Sunday service at 10 AM at Phi Delta Kappa Banquet hall in Odessa.
News & Announcements
ANNUAL MEETING FOLLOWUP
This past Sunday was our annual meeting, we reviewed blessings and looked forward. Here are few highlights:
- Membership Changes – During the last year we welcomed new members through baptism into God’s family. We welcomed transfers from sister congregations in Texas and Florida. We welcomed new members from our community this past year. Six young adults confirmed their faith in Christ!
- Elders Report (In-reach) – Our elders continue to reach out to those in our congregation that we’ve been missing at worship and Bible Study. We are thankful for the Mattes and Longhenry families who have been hosting Wednesday evening Bible Study. Tony Goff updated the congregation regarding our financial stewardship. Our financial gifts of thanks in the ’21-’22 financial year have fallen behind of projected gifts by $20,000. As we begin making payments on our new building we will all need to consider our gifts of thanks to our Savior. Your gifts are important to gospel ministry in our community and mission work in places we cannot go.
- Evangelism Report (Outreach) – Two souls are completing BIC very soon. One will be baptized soon, and another found us online and has been taking Bible Information Class online. We canvassed leading up to Christmas and Easter. Taste of Trinity was an opportunity to meet many business owners in the community and invite the community to check out our new church home. One new program we didn’t get to talk about at the meeting, but was included in the ’22-’23 budget is a Mommy and Me program. Meg Longhenry has volunteered to start this program in the Fall of 2022. Moms and their toddlers can attend a one hour session of learning and fun for their toddler. At the same time, moms can connect with one another.
- Building Update – July 27 is the current projected completion date. Look for a date at the end of July to help move in furnishings to our new building! Look for landscaping to begin soon at the new site. The parking lot is currently being paved. Drywall is being finished.
- Church Leadership Changes – We thank God for the service of Howard Hunt. Howard served as our outreach coordinator for three years and church treasurer for three years. Howard was always ready to help with outreach events and canvassing in our community. Jason Hacke’s term of service ended. To fill these two positions, we welcomed to the leadership team Brad Mattes and Corby Wetzel. Corby and Brad will be joined by Lloyd Cochran, James Moye, and Tony Goff.
