News & Announcements

January 7, 2022

1.7.2022

We need God to appear to us and make himself known to us. For not only is God beyond our understanding, his works and his ways are contrary to mankind’s natural assumptions about him. In other words, the truth about God cannot possibly be discovered by us. Rather, it needs to be uncovered for us. That’s what the Spirit is doing for us during this season of Epiphany. Week after week, surprising truths about Jesus our King and life in his kingdom will be uncovered. We worship at the Phi Delta Kappa Hall located at 11311 Phi Delt Way, Odessa, 33556.

New Year – New You – studying God’s Word together
Bible Study Opportunities

YOU’RE INVITED – WOMEN OF PEACE BIBLE STUDY
Tuesday, January 11 @ 7 PM
Join the Women of Peace for Bible Study and then a brief meeting. This group serves the Savior through various service projects and supporting mission work.

Bible Study Topic: What do the Ten Commandments do for you? Do they send you on a guilt trip? Are they a mirror of your frailties? Or do they hold life-changing love? The miracle of the Commandments is that even after thousands of years, they still hold everything we need to live in relationship with God and with one another. In this women’s Bible study, you will see yourself and how pride, insecurity, grudges, and coveting damage relationships. Each narrative also shows exactly why we still need Jesus and His perfect, Commandment-keeping love.

All Ladies of Peace are invited to an online Bible Study on Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00 PM. A link will be sent out over email. You can also connect through Facebook and our website. If you would like to join, but would like more details, please contact Cindy Cochran (727) 236-7022.

CHRIST’S CHURCH & HER MINISTRY

Would you enjoy college-level theological courses taught locally? The Congregational Assistant Program (CAP) is under the guidance of Martin Luther College. Peace Lutheran is offering a new six-week course called: Christ’s Church & Her Ministry. The Course Description – a study of what the church is and how it accomplishes its work through the public and private ministry of its members.

All members of Peace are welcome to take the course even if you are not enrolled in the CAP program. If you would like to take this seven-week class or learn more, speak with Pastor Schwartz. The cost is $5 for a textbook and materials.

New Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study
Wednesdays at 1:30pm
God’s grace was powerfully at work in the Christian congregation at Corinth. It was a congregation that dealt with serious problems, but the gospel helped them through challenging times. The same gospel of God’s grace is at work in our lives as servants in God’s kingdom. Join us online this Wednesday afternoon as we begin a new study in 2 Corinthians – The Good News & the Christian’s Personal Ministry.

December 24, 2021

Use the Christmas season to answer the important question, “What Child is This?”  A baby is born every twelve seconds. Yet there is something that sets apart this child we worship at Christmas. It is not just his humble beginnings, placed in a cattle trough. It is not just the miraculous birth, his mother being a virgin. There is so much more. This child is the only hope we have for peace and a future. This child can wipe away every tear, drive away every fear. Here is the truth about Christmas. With this child, you lack nothing. Without him, you have nothing. Let us use this Christmas season to answer the most important question of all, What Child is This? We worship at the Phi Delta Kappa Hall located at 11311 Phi Delt Way, Odessa, 33556.

SPECIAL CHRISTMAS WEEK SCHEDULE
December 24, 25, 26
God sent his Son into the world to bring peace and joy meant for you. Make plans to join us.

  • Friday, December 24, Christmas Eve will feature Christmas Carols and the children proclaiming the good news of a Savior born in Bethlehem.
  • Saturday, December 25, Christmas Day is a day when we talk about the glory of God showing up in humble ways for us and our salvation! One of the ways God does that is in Holy Communion. We celebrate Holy Communion on Christmas Day.
  • Sunday, December 26 we will have worship at our normal time of 10 AM. We will continue to sing Christmas carols and fill our hearts with the joy of Jesus at Christmas.

Advent Worship This Sunday:By this time of the holiday season, we might feel weighed down. Presents are not perfect, parties did not go as planned, or year-end projects did not get completed. Maybe we admit our spiritual preparation for Jesus’ birth – the reason for the season – leaves something to be desired. If that is how we feel, perhaps the frenzy of December has actually done us a favor. We have been stretched to our limits. We have been made aware of our shortcomings. We have been humbled. Perfect! For being made aware of our weaknesses does not disqualify us from God’s care. It does the opposite. It is what prepares us for the work he does best. He is a God who lifts up the humbled. Join us for Advent Worship at 10:00 AM at the Phi Delta Kappa Hall located at 11311 Phi Delt Way, Odessa, 33556. Children’s Sunday School and Adult Bible Study are offered as well.
