Youth Confirmation Class, Fall 2020

Classes are scheduled to begin on Sunday, September 13, at 5:29 pm at the Longleaf Office. In-Person classes go from 5:29 PM to 7:00 PM. The address is: 3030 Starkey Blvd (Suite 227), Trinity, 34655. I will send an email and/or text if plans change due to COVID-19. The plan is to keep classes on Sunday evenings. Please plan to block out this time for Youth Confirmation Class.

Confirmation class is for two special purposes. The main purpose is to strengthen youth in their relationship to Jesus Christ, their Savior from sin. God promises that faith is strengthened as they hear and learn his Word. The second purpose is to strengthen youth for living out their faith as a Christian. Youth will learn how to serve Jesus and their neighbor.

COVID-19 Changes: I would like to meet in-person for the first class at the Longleaf church office on September 13. The meeting space at the office will allow for youth to social distance. After the first class we would schedule one or two in-person classes each month and the other classes would be online via Zoom. Please call or text to let me know if you are not comfortable with in-person classes.

We will take time off from classes during Thanksgiving week, Christmas/New Year, Super Bowl Sunday (if there is a Super Bowl Sunday in 2021), and Spring Break. We do not have class during the summer. A calendar will be distributed at the first class.

Here are a few things you and your child can start gathering for class:

  1. Luther’s Small Catechism, printed 2017 by Northwestern Publishing House (nph.net). This book can be purchased from Pastor Schwartz for $20.00 at the first class.
  2. An NIV Bible. These can be purchased online or at any Christian bookstore.
  3. A three ring binder.
  4. A positive attitude toward God’s Word.

I look forward to teaching the truths of God’s Word to your child and watching them grow in their faith!  If you have any questions, please call or text me anytime at (727) 938-6321.

In Christ,
Pastor Schwartz

This Sunday: Wherever faith is, there is bound to be human doubt that lingers questioning God’s loving purposes. Adversity and storms in life caused even Peter and Elijah to question God’s purposes. How does the Christian regain confidence in God’s power and presence and overcome doubts? God gives us the answer this Sunday in worship. Service is in-person or online at 10:00 AM. We have returned to in-person worship at Trinity Elementary School: 2209 Duck Slough Blvd, Trinity, 34655. Join us for worship at 10:00 AM. Bible Study and Children’s Sunday School will be offered at 11:00 AM.

Reminder: Face Coverings are required during worship (with the exception of ages two and under).

Our current guidelines for gathering are still in place for public worship:

  • Hand sanitizing stations will be provided
  • Current Pasco County Guidelines require face coverings during worship. Masks are available at worship if you do not have a mask.
  • Our worship team will help to arrange seating to promote social distancing.
  • Communion and dismissal patterns will be modified to maintain physical distancing as much as possible.
  • The Cafetorium at Trinity Elementary School allows for plenty of space to social distance.
  • We ask that those who are sick, high risk, or have been exposed to COVID-19 within the last 14 days not gather for worship at this time. Online services will continue to be made available.
  • Offering plates and guest registers will not be passed. You can place your offering in the basket provided on your way in or out of worship. We encourage setting up giving online or by text.

Women of Peace Bible Study: All Ladies of Peace are invited to an online Bible Study on Tuesday, August 11 at 7:00 PM. The link to join the zoom Bible Study is here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81464684544?pwd=bU01Z3E1ZEtSUEs4UmlqWkxlMlFUQT09

7.30.2020

Greetings members and friends of Peace Lutheran Church,

We say with the Psalmist, “Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his steadfast love endures forever.” I am sure as you look back on the last four months and you review all that God has done for you and your loved ones, you will join me in overflowing with thankfulness to our God. Most of all, we are thankful for the unchanging message of God’s forgiveness and grace through Christ Jesus. Even though our world is changing around us, that message never changes. Thanks be to God!

This Sunday, August 2 we have been approved to return to worship at Trinity Elementary School. The school space will give us plenty of space to maintain distancing while worshipping safely together. The custodian staff as well as our set up team will be taking extra cleaning measures.  Our Gathering Guidelines that have been in place before will remain in place: those who are sick, high risk, or have been exposed to COVID-19 within the last 14 days not gather for worship at this time, the offering plates will not be passed, hand sanitizing stations will be made available, you can see the full list at our website under our COVID – 19 updates.

Masks are still required indoors in Pasco county, with the exception of those age two and younger.

To repeat: We plan to offer in-person worship this Sunday, August 2. We will return to our previous Sunday schedule, with worship at 10:00 AM at Trinity Elementary School, 2209 Duck Slough Blvd.

Children’s Sunday School will follow worship. Children’s Sunday School is an opportunity to reinforce what you are already teaching your young ones about the faith. You remind your children that God is watching over them and caring for them, it is so important that the message of God’s presence and power and love for them in Jesus be reinforced. Children’s Sunday School is where that happens. This message will allow them to live without fear as they prepare to go back to school and return to other activities. Parents, I hope you will consider joining us for worship and Sunday School in the weekend ahead.

Adult Bible Study will be offered after the second service at 11:15 AM on Sunday, it will be streamed live online through Facebook similar to how we have been doing it over the last few weeks. Bible Study will continue to be offered online on Wednesdays at 1:30 PM and 7:00 PM.

We recognize that some may not be ready to return to public worship at this time. We understand. As in the past, we want our members to know there is no obligation to attend in-person worship. We will continue to record and offer online services that will be posted on Facebook and our website each weekend. Above all, we want you to stay connected to Jesus your Savior.

I am looking forward to seeing you soon, continue to check our website and Facebook pages for the latest updates. As you know, things can change rapidly. I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday, whether that is remotely through online worship, or in person at Trinity Elementary School.

My prayer for you continues to be Paul’s prayer for believers, “Just as you received Christ as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6-7). I hope to see you very soon.

In Christ,
Pastor Schwartz
